What You’ll Do
We are seeking compassionate and reliable Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide weekend, hands-on support to an adult consumer in her home and community. This role focuses on promoting independence, dignity, and quality of life through respectful, person-centered care.
You will:
Provide hands-on personal care including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and transfers Prepare and safely feed texture-modified/pureed meals following the feeding plan assist with mobility using power wheelchair and stroller equipment Provide one-to-one supervision to ensure safety maintain a calm, low-stimulation environment Support community activities, outdoor time, and preferred hobbies assist with transportation as assigned Complete documentation, shift notes, and incident reports accurately communicate changes or concerns to family and supervisors promptly.
Schedule (Weekend Availability Required)
Saturday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Saturday 8:00 PM - Sunday 8:00 AM (Overnight Shift)
Sunday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM (may extend to 10:00 PM)
Reports To: Support Coordinator
Consumer Overview
The consumer enjoys spending time with family and neighbors, being outdoors, taking neighborhood walks, listening to music, and engaging with children in the community. She is described as happy-go-lucky, quick to learn, and responds well to direct communication. She requires total daily care and depends on staff and family for personal and medical support. Staff must ensure she is treated with dignity, respect, and inclusion in decision-making whenever possible.
Training
Staff will receive required training specific to the consumer's support plan before providing direct care. Training includes:
Feeding and safety procedures
Transfers and mobility assistance
Communication methods
Wheelchair operation
Documentation and safety protocols
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (or equivalent experience)
Must be 18 years or older
Ability to pass background checks and required clearances
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Ability to provide hands-on personal care and safe transfers (training provided)
Reliable and able to work weekend schedules
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in direct care or disability services
Experience with mobility equipment and meal preparation support
Skills & Attributes
Patient, compassionate, and highly observant
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Physically able to perform hands-on care safely
Comfortable working in home and community environments
Working Conditions
Home-based support with close physical assistance required
May include overnight monitoring
Must follow safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies
